Many Sand Options to Select From

Mason Sand

Mason sand is classified as a fine aggregate that meets the ASTM C144 density standards for masonry mortar. It is finer than torpedo sand and contains very few aggregate particles. It is most often used as mortar mix for use in golf courses, sandboxes, and volleyball courts, and as beach sand. It also serves as a suitable underlayment option for swimming pool liners to prevent the possibility of punctures.

Torpedo Sand

This product is a type of sand with a very fine aggregate and an approximate particle size of less than 3/8". It is screened and washed and meets ASTM C33 density standards for sand that can be used in concrete. Aside from the concrete (and not for mortar), it's also a good choice for utility pipe bedding, mound-type septic systems, livestock bedding, or a backfill material.

Pit Run Sand

Pit run sand is the raw material sand before any screening or crushing takes place. It's generally considered the most economically priced product for raising or filling a grade elevation.

#2 Screened Sand

#2 screened sand is considered to be a step above pit run fill sand. Unlike pit run sand, it is screened and will contain no rocks larger than 3/8". It's another material that is most commonly used as a backfill material.
